Online Course
Teaching Struggling Readers Around the World is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) jointly designed by World Learning and The Chinese University of Hong Kong for teachers, parents, and other interested individuals who want to learn the basics of learning to read across different writing systems around the world.
The course started Monday, March 11. It is self-paced, and there are opportunities for discussion and interaction in each of the five modules. The course was written in easy-to-read English. It is a five-week course. We estimate that participants will spend 3-4 hours a week on the course. Those who finish all activities in the course will receive a certificate and an electronic badge.
The content of the MOOC is mainly based on two books, namely, Children’s Literacy Development and Coping with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD: A Global Perspective. In the MOOC, we focus on how children learn to read and how to teach reading across cultures. We welcome everyone to take this MOOC to learn together and share their experiences. We have received a lot of positive feedback since the course ended, and if you have interest in seeing it re-opened in the future, please contact me.
